How-To Video: Food shopping and public transit

What else can you do?

- Let Google know that you want the “Add Destination” option on public transit searches. Currently, it’s only available for car searches. This option allows you to add stop between your main route so you can plan a more efficient trip.

- Write a letter to RTC Southern Nevada asking for cell phone text alerts of bus arrival times. That way, you can take your time at the store, coffee shop, or where ever you happen to be without worrying about missing the your bus. Also, you’ll neve be stranded at a stop again because of bus malfunctions or traffic congestion.

Counting Down Road Projects

Countdowns are very popular, or so I hear. I want to know what you all think about a counter on this blog counting the number of days over the deadline of road projects around Las Vegas?

You all could send in your reports and plot on a Google Map I’ll create plus a little a counter next to it.

Two things I’d like to know though – anyone know how to create a timer, that’s compatible with wordpress? AND how would you all use the technology?

And just for “teh lulz,” vote on it!

20 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Drive

The lovely and prompt people at Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) got me the statistics on the top twenty crash sites in the Vegas valley in 2007. Needless to say, they’re all along the Flamingo, Tropicana and Sahara corridors – the heart of downtown.

In the core of downtown, buses come between 10 and 15 minutes. However, at the intersection with the highest number of accidents, Sahara Ave and Decatur Blvd, it comes maybe every 20 minutes. Crossing that intersection is like crossing the Sahara Desert (pun intended). Eight lanes of traffic and 20 seconds to run across in 100 degree isn’t the answer. Fewer lanes and more buses is.

Click on the dots near your home and see how many accidents happen. I wanted to make a heat map but I’m not a code monkey :) .
